Esoteric Acupuncture encompasses a much broader spectrum of healing than traditional acupuncture and emphasizes the maintenance of wellness by harmonizing and strengthening your energy systems before you become ill. It was developed to address the complex imbalances that occur at the spiritual & emotional level in order to heal at the physical level. Mind and body are one so often there are emotional issues underlying many of our physical problems. The focus is on using acupuncture to harmonize and balance the energy centers known as Chakras. These treatments are excellent for treating anxiety and depression and other emotional imbalances.
There are three stages of treatment in Esoteric Acupuncture. The first treatment or two will be spent Harmonizing the flow of energy through your body to set in motion the correct energy flow for accessing our higher consciousness and in preparation for Chakra balancing. The second step will be to align the Chakras and this may take a number of treatments as you begin to access and understand your realities in a slightly different manner and let go of your issues, without necessarily knowing what they are, by letting go of the associated tensions within your body. The final and most liberating step is the New Encoding Patterns which sets up a new intention from which to move forward in life as you understand and realize your highest potential of spiritual growth
The Chakra system:
Base Chakra is considered the seat of the collective unconscious and the origin of the kundalini energy. It is related to instinct, security & stablility, survival and also to basic human potentiality. Common sense is grounded in the Base Chakra as is our power for creative self-expression to achieve & survive, and our drive for procreation (sexuality & sensuality). It relates to Tribal energy: our immediate family structure & all the groups to which we belong. It connects us with Earth energy: earthly possessions & setting down roots, our idea of stability, and building the base of our foundation. It is connected with the Adrenal glands responsible for the fight or flight response when survival is under threat, as well as day-to-day survival issues. The base Chakra connects us to the outer physical world and imbalance leads to excessive attachment to material possessions and equating these with security or our inability to let go of material objects or to memories or negative feelings (resentment, feelings of abandonment etc) that then prevent us moving forward in a positive manner.
An inability to let go that can show up as living in the past or chronic constipation.
Sacral Chakra is a reservoir for tremendous physical power, accessed through lumbar region & the area below umbilicus. The Chinese organ systems for this chakra are the Kidney & Bladder (genitourinary system) so physical imbalances include dark circles under eyes, issues with urination / knees / hearing / bones. This chakra is all about relationships and basic emotional needs, sexual energies (or lack) for pleasure or reproduction & Gonads (ovaries, testes, prostate gland & all hormones produced by these ).balancing Male / Female energies. Creativity is enhanced as is our joy and enthusiasm for life and our mental clarity & memory when this chakra is in balance. When out of balance we may have problems moving forward in life due to fear & insecurity. Sacral Chakra is related to power (including will power), fame, money and how we manage finances (constant money problems often result in chronic lower back problems).
Solar Plexus Chakra relates to the Chinese organ systems of Spleen & Stomach and Liver & Gallbladder all of which are involved in the metabolic and digestive systems converting food into energy for the body. Imbalances can lead to fatigue issues especially chronic fatigue while balance allows for expansiveness & growth. The following conditions can arise when the solar plexus center is off center.
- Flexibility, rigidity & stiffness: physical stiffness (arthritis, tendon problems), or mental stiffness (stubborn or opinionated), unwillingness to bend.
- Decision-making or indecision & procrastination
- Eye / vision problems, lack of direction in life.
- Digestive issues including digestion of life, lack of sweetness in life (diabetes). People under pressure, excessive worriers, tend to have ST problems.
Solar Plexus is about personal power (or lack) which can result in introversion, anxiety, feeling over sensitive (poor me), crying easily over challenges or emotional imbalances (anger, depression, irritability).
Heart Chakra is all about Love, wisdom & the search for pure knowledge & absolute truth. Learn how to receive: express love by the act of giving without expecting anything in return. In Chinese medicine the Heart governs blood circulation (blood related disorders), controls perspiration (fluid of HT), related to Joy (HT problems are often due to feeling bitter about life) and governs passion and devotion. The Heart Chakra relates to the Thymus which is an element of the immune system & endocrine system . To strengthen the thymus & activate the Heart Chakra lightly tap your sternum with last 3 fingers before mediation or sleep. The Heart Chakra governs unconditional love for the self and others, how we relate to others & ourselves and can open & allow communication or close & stop communication. Key issues are our complex emotions, compassion, tenderness, unconditional love, equilibrium, rejection and well-being.
Throat Chakra is all about communication (fluent thought) and growth through self-expression, truth and our alignment with integrity. We are often afraid to express ourselves due fear of ridicule, lack of self confidence, fear of retaliation, punishment or abandonment. This fear can lead to chronic throat problems including chronic cough, sinus, emphysema, asthma, talking too loudly, fear of speaking out or speaking the truth, stuttering. Lung energy corresponds with sadness, disappointment and grief - yearning to speak out yet cannot verbally express themselves. This chakra is paralleled to the Thyroid which is responsible for growth and maturation.
Imbalance affects our metabolism. This chakra govern independence, getting ahead in career with an emphasis on work & status, the need to be recognised - ego dominates not being recognized or not being heard.
Brow Chakra represents the two worlds of the mind: the manifest & unmanifest, imagination & desire in the highest form. Key issues with this chakra involve trusting our inner guidance, having clarity on an intuitive level, the abilities of comprehension & perception, visual consciousness, clear understanding of our purpose in life & how we fit into the overall divine plan. Physically the ears, eyes, and nose (sinus, vision, & hearing) can be affected as well as headaches & allergies. Concentrating on the 3rd eye in meditation can lead to sinus problems. Brow chakra is linked to the pineal gland which is a light sensitive gland that produces the hormone melatonin which regulates sleep and waking up.
Crown Chakra is the pathway to higher spiritual powers, pure consciousness & inner wisdom. It is related to the pituitary gland which secretes hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system and also connects to central nervous system via the hypothalamus. The thalamus is thought to have a key role in the physical basis of consciousness.
This chakra is associated with meditation, universal consciousness and unity, beingness, humbleness, maturity & wisdom. Physically problems can include headaches (top head), mental disorders, scalp problems, epilepsy. Balancing this can lift spirits in depression.
